Advanced Homiletics: Doctrinal & Series Preaching

Year 4 · Term 1 · Advanced Ministry & Leadership — 3 credit hours

Building a full, multi-part doctrinal teaching curriculum from the ground up, rather than a single message.

Topics: Doctrinal series, Curriculum-scale planning

Suggested resource: Your own Master Collection production process, applied at full scale.

Progress: 0 / 3 weeks marked complete

Week 1: Planning a Doctrinal Curriculum

Reading: Practical exercise — no reading assigned

A full doctrinal curriculum, teaching an entire body of belief systematically rather than one topic at a time, requires mapping out every major doctrine you want to cover and sequencing them so earlier lessons build the foundation later ones depend on — the same logic that shaped this entire institute's four-year structure. This is graduate-level curriculum design: not just planning individual excellent lessons, but architecting how an entire body of teaching fits together as one coherent whole.

Key terms: Doctrinal curriculum mapping, Sequencing dependencies, Curriculum-scale architecture

Discussion Questions

  • Which doctrine would you want to teach first in a full doctrinal curriculum, and why does its position in the sequence matter?

Challenge: Outline a full doctrinal curriculum (8–12 lessons) covering your tradition's core beliefs, in a deliberate teaching order.

Week 2: Balancing Depth and Accessibility

Reading: Practical exercise — no reading assigned

The hardest skill in doctrinal teaching at this level is presenting genuinely deep, technically accurate content in language a first-time listener can still follow, without dumbing down the substance or losing the audience in jargon. This usually means translating technical terms into plain language the first time you use them, using concrete illustrations for abstract theological concepts, and resisting the temptation to prove your own depth of study rather than simply serving the listener's understanding.

Key terms: Depth without jargon, Translating technical terms, Serving the listener over proving yourself

Discussion Questions

  • Think of a teacher who explained something genuinely deep in accessible language. What specifically made it work?

Challenge: Take one of the most technical concepts from Years 3–4 of this institute and explain it in language a new believer could follow.

Week 3: Producing a Full Doctrinal Series

Reading: Practical exercise — no reading assigned

Bring your curriculum outline from Week 1 to life as an actual produced series, applying your full production workflow, writing, slides, recording, to at least the first two or three lessons, treating it as real, publishable ministry content from the start rather than a practice exercise. This is the kind of substantial, structured output that could become a genuine product for Apostolic Power or a real teaching resource for your own congregation and beyond.

Key terms: Full production applied to curriculum, Publishable from the start, Real ministry output

Discussion Questions

  • What would need to be true of this series for you to feel confident publishing it under your own ministry name?

Challenge: Fully produce the first lesson of your doctrinal curriculum outline, start to finish.
